Speaking on a TVB news programme, Hong Kong Sports Institute Chief Executive Tony Choi believes Hong Kong athletes' positive performances during the National Games was largely a result of increased interaction and training in the mainland. He added that such arrangements will be increased in the future. Speaking on the city's achievement of securing 19 medals in the games, among which nine were gold, Choi noted the results were unexpected. He stressed that the city never collected more than two gold medals in previous games. He gave credit to training sessions in the mainland for the athletes' stellar performances, pointing out an earlier triathlon training session in the highlands of Yunnan. Choi added the city's sports sector should take advantage of its ties with the mainland to increase the quality of its sportsmen and women.
