15th National Games closing ceremony to be held in Shenzhen

The closing ceremony of the National Games will be held in Shenzhen at about 8pm tonight.

Sports authorities said this year's National Games have set eight world records, reflecting the achievements of China's development in competitive sports.

Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan attended the National Games summary press conference in Shenzhen and praised the Hong Kong team for achieving 9 golds, 2 silvers and 8 bronzes, the best result in the National Games since Hong Kong's return to the motherland.

Chan says the two cross-border events co-organised by Hong Kong, including the road cycling individual race and the track and field marathon, demonstrated to the world the capability of the Greater Bay Area to co-host large-scale events.

China's General Administration of Sports said this year's National Games has set eight world records, underscoring the effectiveness of China's competitive sports development, which also helps in preparing the country for the next Olympic Games.

The closing ceremony would be held at the Qianhai Happy Theatre in Shenzhen, which is the first time in the history of the National Games that the closing ceremony is held outside the sports field.
