Two men have been charged with manslaughter over last year's fatal scaffolding collapse at a Kai Tak construction site that killed two female workers.

The defendants -- a 48-year-old site foreman and a 58-year-old scaffolder -- were brought to the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Court on Friday morning for their first court appearance.

The case was adjourned until February 27th next year with the pair being granted bail at 300,000 dollars each.

The duo were said to be involved in the fatal incident in which massive bamboo scaffolding crashed 19 stories from a luxury residential project in Kai Tak on February 20th last year.

Apart from the two victims, three others were injured.

The two suspects were arrested on Thursday in Ngau Tau Kok and Tseung Kwan O.

There had been previous cases of industrial incidents leading to manslaughter charges.

In 2023, two workers died from gas poisoning while working underground at the Elements mall.

In 2022, a tower crane collapsed at a housing site on Anderson Road, killling three workers. The project manager on duty was charged with manslaughter.
