Immigration Dept arrested 24 illegal workers including overstaying domestic helpers

The Immigration Department has arrested 24 illegal workers, including 13 overstaying domestic helpers, mostly Indonesian nationals.

Based on intelligence, the Immigration Department conducted searches at 27 locations across Hong Kong over three days starting Tuesday, including restaurants and food manufacturing plants, arresting 34 people, including 8 employers.

The foreign domestic helpers who have overstayed their visas were engaged in tasks such as dishwashing.

Some have been working illegally for nearly a year, earning 300 to 500 dollares per day, which is higher than the current monthly salary of about 5,000 dollars for foreign domestic helpers.
