A potential step towards peace in Ukraine, but one that US President Donald Trump appears to have drawn up with Russia first. Senior American officials are in Kyiv with a plan to "end" the four-year war. A bombed-out building still smoulders a day on from what was called one of the largest Russian attacks in western Ukraine. Emergency services worked shifts into the night and early hours to find survivors in a shattered nine-storey apartment block two hundred kilometres from the border with Poland. More than two dozen were killed, four times as many injured. Crews used machinery to lift cracked concrete blocks to try to get under the rubble as a US-led plan to end the fighting is taking shape. NBC reports Donald Trump has signed off on the deal which may satisfy Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has been consistent in his position. Putin wants Ukraine to give up joining NATO and pull back from the front line. The 28-point plan, drawn up in "secret" consultation with the Kremlin, according to one leak, will be put in front of Ukraine's leader. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who'd been in Turkey, another country trying to mediate, will, on his return to Kyiv, meet top US negotiators and military officials. It's likely Zelenskyy will be urged by the US to agree to ceding land, giving up some weapons and reducing Ukraine's armed forces. In exchange, Ukraine will get US security guarantees. Danish Foreign Minister Lokke Rasmussen says : "We have to find out whether it is really the big boys who is behind this plan or not, you know. Rumor has it that this plan, we should stand up for Ukraine. Questions about whether shift of land and territory should be a part of peace, must not be negotiated, you know, without the Ukrainians. We have made that crystal clear." Europe is the main payer, the main supporter of Ukraine, POlish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sirkorski says, "it's of course Europe's security that's at stake, so we expect to be consulted."
