The commerce ministry welcomed the Netherlands' suspension of an administrative order that allowed it to take control of Chinese-owned semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia.

The ministry said this was a first step "in the right direction toward a proper settlement of the issue."

Dutch minister of economic affairs Vincent Karremans said on Wednesday that the government would step back from seizing Nexperia under the "Availability of Goods Act."

He added the move was a gesture of goodwill and that talks would continue.

This after two rounds of consultations between both sides held earlier this week.

Beijing welcomed the detente but pointed out the suspension still falls short of fully ending Amsterdam's state intervention.

A ministry spokesperson said the source and responsibility for the current industrial disruption lie with the Dutch side, and urged it to help restore the security and stability of global semiconductor production and supply chains.
