Hong Kong spectators gathered at Kai Tak on Wednesday to support the local men's fencing team.

The atmosphere was already buzzing at Kai Tak Stadium before the men's fencing team foil event even started. A shared similarity among the spectators was that a lot of them waved a blue towel, with "Hong Kong" written on it.

The audience would chant and clap whenever the local team scored a point. Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law also could not contain her excitement.

Ultimately, the men's team beat Fujian's fencers 45-34, capturing its first ever gold medal at the National Games.

This man said he was confident the city's team would secure a gold because all the fencers have high world rankings. The gold marks Hong Kong's ninth medal at the Games, the most ever for the city.
