Oita fire destroys more than 170 buildings

A major fire broke out in a residential area of Oita City in Kyushu, Japan, destroying more than 170 buildings.
A man in his 70s is missing.
The incident occured near the residential area by the Saganoseki fishing port in Oita. At around 5.40p.m. on Tuesday, residents reported a house fire.
The blaze quickly spread to the nearby woodland. The Oita Prefectural Government stated that 115 households, totalling 175 people, have evacuatedto nearby community centres.
The fire burned for more than ten hours and had still not been fully extinguished by Wednesday morning. In response to a request from the oita Prefectural Government, the Self-Defense Forces deployed helicopters to assist with firefighting.
