Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan said, based on the experience of the first joint hosting of the National Games by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, he believes Hong Kong has the capability of hosting more international sporting events, including the Olympics.

International Olympic Committee's Honorary President Thomas Bach said during his visit to Hong Kong that the Greater Bay Area possesses all the ingredients to have a successful bid for the Olympics.

Agreeing with that, Eric Chan today said that Hong Kong needs to hold its head high and stay confident as the city has what it takes to hold a world-class sporting events, including the 2036 Olympics.

In the past, Olympic host countries have to shoulder the operational costs and venue facilities, Kenneth Lam, President of the Hong Kong Golf Association says overspending risks are not high.

KENNETH LAM, President, HK Golf Association: "At the moment, we are sparing no efforts so we can get the Olympics to the Greater Bay Area. It's just going to enhance everything. The budget, if we have an event like this, it would be like a private-public partnership in terms of funding it, so we can have government funding as well as funding from private sector. And financially, if a place like Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong cannot afford it, I don't know how anywhere else can afford it."
