The golf competition at the National Games swings into action at Hong Kong's Fanling golfcourse. Midway through the four-day event, Hong Kong made strong moves in the men's team event, climbing to joint second place in the scoreboard. Though today is a weekday, our home crowds have certainly made its presence felt. Donning their signature red shirt, Hong Kong's star golfer Taichi Kho dazzled on the greens, sinking putts across seven holes and narrowly missed the eighth. He finished placing fifth individually, just three strokes behind the leader: Zhejiang's Kuang Yang. In the men's team competition, Taichi Kho, Hak Shun-yat, Jeffrey Shen and Matthew Cheung totalled 404, 16 under par, moving them into joint second with Shanghai, just two strokes behind Shaanxi. TAICHI KHO: "I think I made progress over yesterday, which is pretty much all I set out to do today. I think having the home crowd and knowing the course so well definitely plays to our big advantage. So I know all of us on the team made the most of it today." MATTHEW CHEUNG: "Playing in Hong Kong, playing in front of home crowds, it really gives you something to try and you really want to try and do better." On the women's side, Hong Kong sits seventh in the team standings. Individually, Arianna Lau led the way, climbing to joint 11th place. TIFFANY CHAN: "We can see a lot of Hong Kong fans came all the way to Fanling to watch us. So I appreciate all coming all the way here and hopefully we do good." Among the fans were kids who had come just to root for their heroes. Like Manson here, who said he even got a golf ball as a gift from Hong Kong golfer Tiffany Chan. Spectator CLAUDIA KOH: "It's amazing to see like all these big tournaments happening here at home soil. So definitely need to come and support more." Spectator JB PEREIRA: "Being able to attract this level of talent also has something to do with how the course is set up and how well the conditions are." More than 80 golfers from the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao have descended on the fairways for this year's National Games. Hong Kong's team is fielding four men and four women, hoping to make their mark on the national stage. The venue -- also abuzz with fun with handicraft workshops and a digital sports zone. Adding to the festivity were National Games' mascots -- modelled after the Chinese white dolphin which roamed the course.
