Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan said, based on the experience of the first joint hosting of the National Games by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, he believes Hong Kong has the capability to host more international sporting events, including the Olympics. The first joint hosting of the National Games by Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao saw Hong Kong hosting eight events, including beach volleyball, rugby sevens, and cycling. During his visit to Hong Kong, IOC Honorary Life President Bach mentioned the Greater Bay Area's ability to bid for the Olympics. Eric Chan agreed that Hong Kong has the capability to host more international sporting events, including the 2036 Olympics. Chan said: "We should have high aspirations. We are confident in hosting international events in the future. We are capable of it. I personally visited everything this time, and I feel that our current arrangements have reached an international level. Of course, we hope to do better and better. Hosting more international events in the future would greatly help Hong Kong's international image and status." He cited the example of CCTV using Victoria Harbour as a backdrop for live coverage during the National Games, allowing the whole country to appreciate Hong Kong's scenery, which helps boost tourism and economic development. He also praised the high level of Hong Kong athletes and hoped that the National Games would enhance public interest in sports.
