In white jerseys, Hong Kong team made an explosive start in the semifinal at Kai Tak.
The team, which last reached the final in 2013, now booked their spot in the games' final after a 33-19 triumph over Jiangsu.
Hong Kong will face Shandong, the SAR's same rival in rugby sevens 12 years ago, on Friday 9 p.m.
The women's team, meanwhile, faced tougher challenges with early setbacks against Hebei before breakthroughs were made, thumping Hebei 36-7.
It will face Shanghai on Friday to compete for the fifth place.
