The track cycling events of the National Games are poised to hit the starting line this Thursday on home turf -- at the Tseung Kwan O Velodrome. Hong Kong's cycling squad, led by rising star Ceci Lee, who successfully defended her gold medallist title in the Sunday road race event, is making final preparations. From Thursday to next Monday, the Tseung Kwan O Velodrome will host a packed schedule of track cycling events -- encompassing team races, omnium and individual sprints. Donning their signature aqua-blue jerseys, the Hong Kong team trains on home turf alongside provincial competitors -- all racing against time for that perfect lap. Reigning road race gold medalist Ceci Lee says road races are often tougher than track ones because more variables were involved. But after clinching Hong Kong's second gold, she has more confidence. CECI LEE SZE-WING: "We will adapt to the race more, because after the road race, we are a bit tired. So we will try to push the shape to the best in this weekend. (Confident?) Yes." Track cycling -- with the most events and medals under the cycling discipline -- demands not only speed, but also precision, teamwork and tactical mastery. Ready to sprint for glory, head coach Herve Dagorne is setting sights on an ambitious target: four medals for Hong Kong's cycling team overall. HERVE DAGORNE: "The difficult part has been done a long time ago, we've been working hard. Now it's all the detail. We try to maximise, you know, to be perfect, like I told you, like the technique side, strategy." While some track cycling events fall on weekdays, the team hopes that some citizens could come to the Tseung Kwan O Velodrome here to cheer them on and give them a boost of encouragement.
