SoCO urges inquiry reform for Medical Council

Another two complaint cases have been made public by patients' family members over dissatisfaction towards the Medical Council of Hong Kong.
This as the Society for Community Organisation, or SoCO, urged the council to reform their inquiry mechanism.
The first case involved a 51-year-old patient suffering from kidney failure who died after a doctor inappropriately prescribed medicine on four occasions in 2016.
He admitted to professional misconduct and received a three-month suspension from the Medical Council and an 18-month probation.
The patient's relatives were dissatisfied with the light sentence and suggested a judicial review.
The second case involved a 50-year-old patient who remains in a coma after undergoing an endoscopy in Mong Kok owing to stomach pain.
This as SoCO urged the Medical Council to thoroughly reform its inquiry and disciplinary mechanisms.
