Storm Fung-Wong has been upgraded to severe typhoon status, and is expected to move towards Luzon in the Northern Philippines before entering the north of the South China Sea. The Observatory said Hong Kong will experience strong gusts between the beginning and middle of next week owing to the effects of the northeast monsoon. Weather authorities believe Fung-Wong may enter Luzon as a super typhoon, before reaching within 800 kilometres of Hong Kong on Monday, and weaken to typhoon status in the subsequent two days. Regarding the possibility of the Observatory issuing tropical cyclone or strong wind signals, weather authorities said they will need to assess the strength of Fung-Wong after it enters into the South China Sea. Temperatures are expected to drop to between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius between the start and middle of next week.
