Organisers have completed the final rehearsal for Sunday's National Games opening ceremony, revealing that several segments of the event will incorporate elements of Southern Chinese culture in combination with AI technology.

The National Games are all set to begin with organisers having earlier completed the final rehearsal for the opening ceremony of the 75-minute gala.

A key performance at the event is "dreams of the future", which contain cultural elements from the Southern China region such as lion dances, Cantonese opera and Wing Chun style martial arts.

Hosted in Hong Kong, Macao and the rest of the Greater Bay Area for the first time, the National Games' opening ceremony aims to combine unique aspects from all three regions in its performances.

Huang Peiling, the deputy chief director of the opening ceremony, said each segment of the ceremony will be performed together by actors and singers from all three regions, symbolising the nation's unity.

As cinema has long been known as one of the key trademarks of Hong Kong, the ceremony further exemplifies that factor by having Andrew Lai Wai-keung, director of the critically acclaimed crime movie "Infernal Affairs", serve as its executive producer.

The director emphasised Cantonese elements such as lion dances and dragon boats will be used in the event as they define the entire Guangdong cultural region.

In addition to human performers, the gala will include a special segment with the theme of "communication between the past and present", in which traditional Southern Chinese culture will be presented through the assistance of AI and modern robotics.
