Shenzhou-20 spacecraft has delayed its return to Earth after the vessel was possibly hit by tiny bits of space debris, according to the China Manned Space Agency.

The agency is conducting an impact analysis and risk assessment.

There is no new schedule yet for the return mission, which was originally set to land in northern China on Wednesday. The delay highlights the danger of space travel posed by increasing amounts of space debris.

Space junk has led to a growing call for cooperation on managing space traffic.

A United Nations panel on space traffic coordination said last year that urgent action was necessary.
