The four-day Hong Kong Laureate Forum opened at the Science Park this morning, with several Shaw Prize laureates arriving in Hong Kong to take part.

Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan Kwok said in his opening remarks that the Hong Kong SAR government will continue to promote innovation and technology development and attract scientific research talent to Hong Kong.

Chan said: "We are also building a high-end innovation and technology ecosystem, integrating three innovation and technology parks and five major innovation and technology institutions."

Chan said the government's talent attraction policies have yielded encouraging results, and the goal is to attract talent, promote innovation and technology, and support national science and technology development.

Twelve Shaw Prize laureates, including the current winner of the Life Sciences and Medicine Prize, Professor Wolfgang Baumeister, discussed research achievements and future innovation directions with over 200 outstanding young scientists from more than 20 countries and regions.

The organisers of the forum hope to promote intergenerational, intercultural, and interdisciplinary scientific exchange, using the forum to consolidate Hong Kong's position as an international research and innovation hub.
