Four major business chambers will give their workers half a day of paid leave to encourage them to vote in the upcoming Legislative Council elections. This as the Travel Industry Council called upon the tourism sector to delay the departure time of group tours on election day to give travellers enough time to cast their votes. The Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong Chinese Manufacturers' Association, the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce collectively issued the statement to incentivise their staff to fulfil their civil responsibilities. They stressed that voting in the Legco elections are part and parcel of patriotism and love for the city. Meanwhile, Tam Yiu-chung, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macao Studies expects a rise in turnout rate from the last Legco election as a result of a more positive atmosphere in the city.
