The torch relay for the 15th National Games was held simultaneously in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Macao this morning.

The Hong Kong leg of the torch relay began at approximately 9:30 AM.

The launch ceremony was held outside the Government Headquarters. Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Lo Suk-pui lit the cauldron. Acting Chief Executive Eric Chan lit the first torch and handed it to Hong Kong table tennis player Wong Chun-ting.

Of the 50 torchbearers from Hong Kong, nearly half are from the sports sector. Representatives from other sectors include Jockey Club Chairman Liao Changkong and Henderson Land Chairman Martin Lee Ka-shing.

After passing the Golden Bauhinia Square, the torchbearers boarded the Star Ferry to Tsim Sha Tsui Pier, passing through the Tsim Sha Tsui East area, and then transferred to an open-top bus to Kai Tak Sports Park.

Each leg of the relay had 50 torchbearers.

To facilitate the torch relay, roads in Wan Chai North and Tsim Sha Tsui were closed and routes diverted. Police urged citizens to use public transportation instead.
