Hong Kong heaves with Halloween festivities overnight

Revellers in Hong Kong are out and about on Halloween tonight, dressed in a variety of costumes, scary and whimsical.
Jacky Lin has joined the fray in Lan Kwai Fong.
As night fell, revellers began packing the narrow alleys of nightlife hotspot Lan Kwai Fong in Central. And, of course, no Halloween celebration is complete without zombies.
One "undead" party-goer didn't have to shuffle through the crowd, riding in on others' shoulders.
Elsewhere, some turned heads with a full royal-court gown, posing graciously with fans amid the sea of ghouls.
Families joined too -- one father dressed as a Taoist priest appeared to be "capturing" a tiny ghost in his arms, with a "ghost mom" close behind.
They say it's definitely livelier than last year -- and lots more international faces. And they will take a lap and head home early, since they have got a kid with them.
Another visitor, Ms. Li from Beijing, said she came to Hong Kong specifically for the festivities.
These Australian tourists visited Hong Kong for Halloween celebrations two years ago and they are delighted to be back, noting the even more vibrant festivities this year.

Fancy said: "Hong Kong's amazing for Halloween."
Some first-time revellers are planning to visit Lan Kwai Fong for not just this Friday night but also over the weekend.
Upstairs bars were packed -- many fully booked days ago. One bar manager says they prepared 40 percent more stock.
The Lan Kwai Fong Association noted a clear rise in mainland visitors "pilgrimaging" to the nightlife hotspot -- estimating they made up at least 20 percent of the crowd.
It's not just about dressing up tonight. Some restaurants like this Egyptian bar behind me are amping up the festivities with performances from dance-school students and teachers who have added a Halloween twist to their performances.
And yes, they're inviting revellers or even passers-by, like me, to hop in and join the fun.
