20-year-old given detention centre sentence for soliciting nude photos from two 12-year-old girls

A man who solicited nude photos from two 12-year-old girls via social media platform Instagram has been given a detention centre sentence.
One victim committed suicide.
The defendant, now 20 years old, earlier pleaded guilty at the District Court to two counts of inciting a child under 16 to commit an act of serious indecency.
He obtained 257 nude photos and six videos from the victims between December 2022 and March 2023.
The two victims attended the same school while the defendant was a student from another school.
One victim killed herself in March 2023, and the case surfaced when her father discovered messages between her and the defendant on her phone after she died.
Investigations later found the man had also solicited nude photos from the second girl.
The judge cited psychological reports, indicating the defendant has paedophilic disorder and a high risk of reoffending.
