Russian President Vladimir Putin has said his country has successfully tested a Poseidon nuclear-powered super torpedo. Military analysts say the torpedo is capable of devastating coastal regions by triggering vast radioactive ocean swells. This as President Donald Trump has ordered the US military to immediately resume testing nuclear weapons for the first time in 33 years. Trump made the surprise announcement on Truth Social while he was flying to meet President Xi Jinping for trade negotiations in Busan, South Korea. Trump said he was instructing the Pentagon to test the US nuclear arsenal on an equal basis with other nuclear powers. This was announced hours after Russia had claimed it successfully tested a new atomic-powered and nuclear-armed underwater drone Tuesday, which President Vladimir Putin announced on Wednesday, declaring the new weapon can't be intercepted. "Poseidon is unmatched in speed and depth and there is no way to intercept it," Putin said. Adding, "The power output of Poseidon significantly exceeds that of even our most advanced intercontinental-range missile, Sarmat." The revelation came three days after Moscow said it had tested the new Burevestnik missile - meaning 'storm petrel' in Russian. It is the world's first nuclear-powered missile. The propulsion gives it virtually unlimited range, allowing it to loiter for days, circling the enemy's air defences and attacking from an unexpected direction. Putin first announced the Poseidon torpedo and Burevestnik missile in a 2018 state-of-the-nation address, along with several other prospective weapons, declaring they would be able to dodge air defences.
