The Transport Department has granted licenses to ten autonomous vehicles for trial runs on Kai Tak and Kowloon Bay roads.

The ten autonomous private cars will be tagged for identification and can only be tested during designated time periods.

The route runs from the Kai Tak "Youth Hostel" to the MTR Kai Tak Station.

A maximum of six vehicles can operate at a time, with backup operators on board.

In addition, the Transport Department also approved seven autonomous minibuses to travel between the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and the AirportCity.

The Transport Department said since the autonomous driving tests began on North Lantau Island at the end of last year, significant progress has been made. This year, trials have been approved in Tung Chung and Cyberport, and it has been running smoothly so far. This time, the test spanned Kowloon City and Kwun Tong districts, allowing the system to collect more data.
