Beijing has confirmed President Xi Jinping will hold an in-person meeting with US President Donald Trump in the South Korean port city of Busan tomorrow. Trump said the meeting will last three to four hours. Reuters reported that China has purchased three batches of American soybeans for the first time since September. A foreign ministry spokesman confirmed President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump are poised to engage in in-depth discussions in Busan on strategic and long-term issues of bilateral relations, and major topics of mutual concern. The spokesman has expressed readiness to work with the US in yielding positive results, "fostering new guidance and injecting fresh momentum into the stable development of the Sino-US ties." The much-anticipated meeting, the first since 2019, comes as the two parties agreed to a premilinary trade consensus in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on export controls and extending a tariff truce. The Wall Street Journal reported a trade framework is likely on the agenda, as a possible agreement from the Xi-Trump meeting could help resolve issues such as port fees and export curbs on hi-tech products. Ahead of the pair's expected talks, Trump indicated on Air Force One en route to South Korea that he's willing to cut tariffs on Chinese goods in exchange for cooperation in combating the flow of fentanyl ingredients. He said: "I expect to be lowering that because I believe they're gonna help us with the fentanyl situation and they're gonna be doing what they can do." In Gyeongju, a historic city playing host to this year's APEC summit, Trump met with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung this afternoon on tariffs and to reaffirm the two countries' combined defence posture. Trump addressed an APEC business leaders event, touting the deals signed or in the works during his whirlwind Asia tour. He added the "world is watching" for a trade deal with China at the upcoming meeting with Xi. Trump said: "You know that President Xi (Jinping) of China is coming tomorrow here and we're going to be, I hope, making a deal. I think it'll be a good deal for both. And that's really a great result. You know, that's better than fighting and going through all sorts of problems and, you know, no reason for it." "The world is watching, and I think we'll have something that's very exciting for everybody.
