Halliday struck first gold for HK at 15th National Games

In the 15th National Games sailing event held in Shanwei, Guangdong Nicholas Bezy Halliday clinched gold for Team Hong Kong, China in Men's ILCA 7.
That also marks the city's first gold medal in sailing. Chief Executive John Lee described the feat as encouraging and called for the entire city to cheer for our athletes.
In the first 10 rounds of the second stage of Men's ILCA 7 at the National Games, Nicholas Bezy Halliday secured five top-three places.
After deducting penalty points from his worst finish and a fourth-place finish in round 11 on Wednesday, he clinched the first gold medal for Team Hong Kong, China with a net score of 33 points.
That's seven points better than the Shanxi and Jiangsu representatives. It also marks the first National Games gold medal in the history of Hong Kong's sailing team.
NICHOLAS BEZY HALLIDAY: "So I knew that I could win it, but guys put up a really good fight in the end, and ended up being really tough. The most difficult part was the weather. It was just completely out of what we expected. We had humongous waves and light conditions. So that was really tricky."
His coach has also set the next target for Halliday.
Coach HARRY TSOLIS: "The next step is, of course, now Asian Games are coming in less than a year. He would like also to put a strong performance there. And, of course, qualifying for LA and having the second Olympic Games, and hopefully has a very strong performance."
Halliday will receive a cash award of 750,000 dollars from the Hong Kong Jockey Club Athlete Incentive Award Scheme.
Chief Executive John Lee says he feels encouraged that Halliday struck gold at such an early stage and calls on the public to root for all athletes.
Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law says the feat is "a demonstration of his strength and perseverance." She adds that all Hong Kong people are proud of his achievement.
