The District Court has sentenced Li Sui-heung, the former mother-in-law of murdered socialite Abby Choi to 18 months' imprisonment for perverting the course of justice.

Li was found to have obstructed a police investigation into the whereabouts of her son, Alex Kwong, after the murder of Choi between February 22 and 23 in 2023.

She initially denied her charge.

The defence pleaded that two of the individuals that assisted with Kwong's attempted escape were only sentenced to six months' imprisonment, adding that Li's sentence should be lighter.

But the prosecution said the comparison was not appropriate, noting that the two individuals did not know about Kwong's crime, stressing that Li did not help with the investigation even after her son dismembered Choi's body.
