Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said he is ready to sit and talk with the United States, after US President Donald Trump announced plans to hike tariffs on Canadian imports, over an anti-tariff television advertisement. The commercial, aired by the province of Ontario, used the words of former US President Ronald Reagan to criticise US tariffs, angering Trump who said he would end trade talks with Canada and raise tariffs by an extra 10 percent. Carney said in any high stakes negotiation, there are unexpected twists but "you have to keep your cool during those situations." The Canadian leader spoke on the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Malaysia where he focused on building new partnerships with the body's members. Trump said he will not be meeting Carney for some time. Meanwhile, Premier of Ontario Doug Ford said the advertisement had over a billion impressions around the world and generated a conversation that was not happening in the US.
