The Highways Department has introduced new tech including drones to address road subsidence and flooding caused by typhoons and rainstorms more efficiently. That's after Typhoon Ragasa last month led to collapsed trees and inundation in multiple districts. The department deployed nearly 200 emergency teams to clear major roads to ensure citizens can return to work and school the next day. The Highways Department developed an electronic case-handling system last year that automatically receives referrals from the 1823 hotline and contractors' site inspections. It classifies emergencies by type and location to coordinate manpower and resources more effectively. The department adds that with the help of drones, it gives them a full view of the terrain, after incidents such as landslides. So they no longer have to build temporary platforms and send in surveyors to assess the exact scale of damage.
