The body of the late Thai Queen Mother Sirikit was transported in a procession to the Grand Palace to be laid to rest.

A large convoy comprising dozens of vehicles left the hospital, which had seen crowds of mourners gathering since Sirikit's death was announced last Friday.

Mourners lined the roads during the procession, which made its way towards the Grand Palace.

Sirikit's body was held in a silver van near the front of the procession.

As the vehicle entered the Palace, officials saluted and mourners wept.

Funeral ceremonies will be held for a hundred days at the Grand Palace and a mourning period of one year will be held for members of the royal family, royal servants and civil servants.
