Paul Chan says government will see how to accelerate Northern Metropolis development

Financial Secretary Paul Chan said the government will further study the development of the Northern Metropolis, so that the pace of development can be accelerated and its potential further unlocked.
In a blog post, Chan wrote that the government will conduct in-depth research on how, through institutional and procedural innovation and by "removing walls and loosening contraints," the Northern Metropolis can be developed faster and release greater potential; and on how to formulate and deploy policies more flexibly to tightly align with target industries and attract global talent.
He added that whether it is speeding up development of the Northern Metropolis or consolidating and enhancing Hong Kong's status as an international financial, trading, maritime, and innovation and technology centre, it is necessary to set clear directions and goals and maintain strategic resolve.
He said China is currently in a period of both strategic opportunities and coexisting risks and challenges, with increasing uncertainty and unpredictability, making it all the more important to proceed steadily and solidly and to compose a fine new chapter in the new era.
