New People's Party Chairwoman Regina Ip announced she will not seek re-election in the upcoming Legislative Council  election.

Nominations for the Legislative Council general election began yesterday. The New People's Party announced it will field eight candidates. The Party's Chairwoman Regina Ip, Lai Tung-kwok, and Eunice Yung will not seek re-election.

Regina Ip led the party leadership in announcing the list of candidates.

Judy Chan Ka-pei, from the Election Committee constituency, will succeed Regina Ip in contesting the Hong Kong Island West seat. Dominic Li Tze-king and Adrian Pedro Ho King-hong will seek re-election in the New Territories Northeast and the Election Committee constituency, respectively.

Five district councillors will also be running.

But 75-year-old Party Chairwoman Regina Ip, 73-year-old Executive Vice Chairman Lai Tung-kwok, and 48-year-old Vice Chairman Eunice Yung Hoi-yan will not seek re-election.

Regina Ip said: "After 17 years of work, I feel it's time to hand over the baton to younger generations."

When asked why she gave up her re-election bid, Eunice Yung said it was a personal decision.
