The Shaw Prize Award Ceremony saw current scientists honoured and a Chinese great remembered:

It is with heavy heart that, we mourn the passing of Prof. Chen Ning Yang.

Right before the presentation of the prizes, tributes were paid to Yang Chen-ning, a founding member of the Shaw Prize Council, and the first Chinese Nobel laureate in Physics. 

Officiating the ceremony, Chief Executive John Lee delivered a speech. 

This year's prize in astronomy was awarded to John Richard Bond and George Efstathiou, for their research in cosmology. 

German scientist Wolfgang Baumeister claimed the accolade in life science and medicine for his pioneering development in cryogenic electron tomography.

The winner of the mathematical sciences prize went to Kenji Fukaya who specialises in symplectic geometry.
