5 arrested for ticket fraud, including 2025 MAMA Award tickets

Five people were arrested on suspicion of concert and sport event ticket-related fraud.

More than 200 people were scammed, involving losses to the tune of over 500,000 dollars.

Police launched an operation yesterday and rounded up 3 men and 2 women, aged between 21 and 39. They were the alleged core members of the syndicate. 

Some have triad backgrounds.

The crime group claimed to resell or purchase tickets for concerts or matches on various social media platforms to induce victims to place reservations.

The fraudsters then became out of reach after payments were made. 

The concert tickets involved include South Korea's 2025 MAMA Awards Ceremony to be held at Kai Tak next month.

To cover their money trail, scammers then used the crime proceeds to buy cash coupons at supermarket chains or stores, and resell them online in exchange for cash.
