As the nomination period for the Legislative Council election will kick off this Friday, the city's largest political party, the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong has unveiled its list of 26 candidates.
Half of them will contest in the direct elections in geographical constituencies. They include Party Chairman Gary Chan and veteran Starry Lee.
Six incumbent lawmakers will seek re-election. They are among the candidates the party is fielding in Hong Kong Island East, Kowloon East and New Territories Southwest. Another five will participate in the functional constituency election.
Eight more will take part in the Election Committee constituency poll. Among them, Ben Chan and Steven Ho will switch course to compete in the Election Committee constituency.
The DAB says their election platform will consist of three parts, including safeguarding national security, fighting for the economy and benefiting people's livelihood.
Five incumbent members, Lau Kwok-fan, Edward Leung, Stanley Li, Kennedy Wong and Lillian Kwok will not seek re-election. Party Chairman Gary Chan says they are stepping down for their personal reasons, and thanked them for their past contributions.
