An Emirates cargo plane veered off the runway and plunged into the sea while landing in Hong Kong.

All four crew members are unhurt.

However, during the incident, the aircraft also apparently struck an airport patrol car, knocking it into the sea; the two people in the car died.

The airport's North Runway is closed due to the incident, while the other two runways remain in operation.

The Transport and Logistics Bureau expressed deep concern over the incident and sadness over the deaths of the two ground staff.

It said the civil aviation accident investigation body will actively look into the cause.

The cargo plane, belonging to Emirates and operating as flight EK9788 from Dubai to Hong Kong, crashed at around 4a.m. while landing, overruning the runway into the sea.

It apparently collided with a patrol vehicle which was knocked into the sea.

A 30-year-old man was pulled from the water and pronounced dead.

Another man in his 40s was send to North Lantau Hospital and died despite resuscitation efforts.

Police believe the two deceased were the patrol car's driver and passenger.
