Chinese physicist Chen-ning Yang has died in Beijing at the age of 103. Yang became a Nobel laureate in 1957.

Born in Anhui province, the theoretical physicist, Yang, specialised in two fields: statistical mechanics and symmetry principles.

In 1956, Yang and another academic, Lee Tsung Dao, formulated a theory that the left-right symmetry law is violated by the weak interaction. Such a discovery brought the pair their Nobel Prize in 1957,turning them into the first Chinese Nobel laureates.
