US shutdown continues as Senate vote fails again

A vote in the US Senate to pass a stopgap measure to fund the federal government failed again on Tuesday.
As the shutdown enters its third week, the Office of Management and Budget said it is preparing to "batten down the hatches" with more reductions in force to come.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune claimed the Democrats are preparing to keep on with the shutdown for several more weeks.
His Democratic counterpart, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, blamed the Republicans and said the American people will hold them responsible for rising health care costs.
