The parliament in Madagascar has voted to impeach President Andry Rajoelina whose whereabouts remain unknown.
The army appear to be in charge of the country.
The leader, who first took office in 2009, tried to dissolve the assembly earlier after announcing he had moved to a safe place for fear of his life.
Opposition groups, who boycotted the 2023 election, say the president has left the island as protests against his governance increased.
The vote successfully went ahead in the lower house.
The army says it has taken control of the nation of thirty-two million.
Soldiers had already pledged their allegiance to young "Gen Z" protesters who have been on the streets for weeks over corruption and electricity blackouts.
Demonstrators thanked the elite CAPSAT military unit who had once helped Rajoelina into power but have now turned against him.
