Hong Kong's football fans witnessed an exciting night of action tonight with the home team and Bangladesh settling on a 1-1 draw in the Asian Cup qualifiers at the Kai Tak Stadium.

With more than 45,000 attendees at the football match, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law said the city should host more similar events to unite the local community.

She added that the Football Association of Hong Kong, China has been holding talks wth representatives at the Kai Tak Sports Park in a bid to turn the facility into the former's home stadium.

A red wave flooding the Kai Tak Stadium tonight as fans of the city's football team eagerly showed their support for the match with Bangladesh.

A rare moment of solemnity in the arena as crowds stood for the Bangladeshi and Chinese national anthems.

With crowds breaking into thunderous cheer as the match is about to kick off.

Hong Kong fans went the extra mile tonight showing their support by unfurling a giant 40-metre-long banner featuring red dragons, symbolising the city's iconic mythological creatures triumphing over their South Asian rivals.

Fan favourite Yapp Hung-fai, who had to sit out of the game owing to an injury, was not forgotten as fans shouted his name moments before the match.

While a far smaller crowd of Bangladesh supporters showed up for their team, their passion could be seen in their unity.

Though the South Asians managed to level the score late, the atmosphere remained heated throughout the whole game.
