The World Exposition in Osaka closed on Monday after a six-month run.

At the closing ceremony, the flag of the Bureau International des Expositions was handed to representatives of the next host country, Saudi Arabia.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said "we were able to create a wonderful exhibition where our hearts united and pleased many people."

The event attracted more than 25 million visitors, according to the organiser's initial estimates.

The China Pavilion at the Expo won the Gold Award for Exhibition Design among large self-built pavilions.
