Over ten lawmakers have stated they will not seek re-election. The latest Legislative Council member not to seek re-election is 68-year-old Martin Liao Cheung-kong.
Chief Executive John Lee said he respects the individual choices of Legco members and stressed that personnel changes are normal in any organization.
Lee said: "It is normal for any organisation to experience personnel changes during term changes. I have noticed that some Legislative Council members have stated that they will not run in the next Legislative Council election. These are personal choices, and I respect their decisions."
"I thank the members of this term for their work and their contributions to Hong Kong," Lee said.
Some members who have not sought Legco re-election are also members of the Executive Council.
John Lee pointed out that the Executive Council's term of office aligns with that of the SAR government, and no Executive Council member has resigned so far.
