Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu went back to work after a tumultuous week in French politics.

The newly reappointed PM, who had resigned and then been reinstated, toured a police station in Paris.

It is not clear if Lecornu can unite the government but he was tasked by President Emmanuel Macron, again, with trying to produce a budget.

Lecornu's admits he may not be able to do that saying: "I didn't feel there were a lot of candidates being completely transparent. I don't have an agenda. I have no other ambition just to get through this moment, which is objectively very difficult. I have a clear mission, and either the political forces help me and we work together, or they don't."

Opposition politicians, especially those on the right, have criticised Macron for going back to Lecornu, who appears to be the least worse option.
