The winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize is Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee said she wins for promoting democratic rights in her country and her struggle to achieve a transition to democracy.
Jorgen Watne Frydnes, chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee said: "The Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 goes to a brave and committed champion of peace, to a woman who keeps the flames of democracy burning amidst a growing darkness. The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 to Maria Corina Machado."
When asked about US President Donald Trump's public desire to win the peace prize, Frydnes said that they only base their decisions on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel.
The 2025 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded a few hours ago in Oslo, Norway.
