Foreign Minister Wang Yi continues his trip in Italy and met with Italian President Sergio Mattarella.
Both sides called for enhanced bilateral cooperation.
In the hour-long meeting, Wang conveyed President Xi Jinping's greetings to Mattarella, saying that Mattarella is a good friend of China, having made two state visits to the country.
Wang adds that China attaches great importance to Italy's influence in Europe and the world, and hopes to accelerate the promotion of the Sino-Italy comprehensive strategic partnership action plan.
Wang says that China and Italy are both ancient civilisations, and are able to respond to today's challenges with wisdom.
Mattarella meanwhile says Rome and Beijing are both advocate the concept of peace and cooperation, noting that China plays an increasingly important role in the international community.
He also looks forward to more contributions from China to peace and stability of the world.
