1.64 million tourists visited HK during the 8-day Golden Week

During the eight-day National Day Mid-Autumn Festival Golden Week that just concluded, about 1.64 million tourists visited Hong Kong. Among them, more than 1.4 million were mainland visitors.
The government said that the peak arrival of mainland tourists was on October 1, with more than 230,000 travellers. The highest proportion of them entered the city through the West Kowloon high speed rail station, followed by the Lok Ma Chau Spur Line.
The Victoria Harbour National Day fireworks display drew more than 340,000 spectators.
In terms of mainland tour groups, the city welcomed about 1,300 tour groups -- an increase of about 24 percent year-on-year, which brought in a total of nearly 50,000 tourists. About 60 percent of them stayed overnight. During the eight-day holiday, the occupancy rate of hotels in Hong Kong generally reached 90 percent.
As for the East Dam in Sai Kung, about 12,000 people visited the area during the Golden Week.
Hong Kong authorities described the overall number of visits to Hong Kong during the Golden Week as satisfactory, having driven business in various sectors.
