The United Nations will begin cutting down its peacekeeping force and operations, as a result of the US slashing funds earmarked for the world body.
Sources say roughly 13,000 to 14,000 out of 50,000 peacekeepers placed globally will be sent back to their home countries.
A support office in Somalia will also be affected.
UN hopes to be able to cut its budget by approximately 15% this year.
Washington has argued that the UN budget is bloated, pledging not to make any further contributions until the US State Department has assessed the effectiveness of each of the UN programmes.
