The government said the application number of the New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme has surpassed 2,200. Authorities said the applications could bring in 70 billion investment dollars if all are approved.
Over 900 applications have been approved.
During a Legislative Council meeting, some lawmakers worry that the property price will be pushed up after the government decided to lower the minimum threshold for a residential property to fit the Scheme from 50 million to 30 million dollars.
Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Christopher Hui, said authorities do not intend to affect residents by adjusting the policy. Hui said the arrangement has a high threshold.
