A local charity has installed door sensors at public housing flats benefiting 120 elderly residents living alone and elderly-only households.

Lions Club of South Kowloon set up the sensors at public housing units at Lok Wah South Estate in Ngau Tau Kok, noting the goal is to help ensure the safety of over 900 elderly residents in Hong Kong in the end.

If no door movement is detected for more than 48 hours, the system will automatically alert designated contacts including family members or district support teams.

If follow-up phone calls go unanswered, care team volunteers will visit the home to check on the resident.

Secretary for Housing Winnie Ho expresses gratitude to the charity, noting that government's resources are limited.
