The city reports one more imported case of chikungunya fever.
It involves a 59-year-old male living in Wong Tai Sin District. Preliminary investigation revealed that he visited Jiangmen in Guangdong between September 23 and 26, during which he was bitten by mosquitoes. He developed a fever and joint pain on September 30, followed by a rash yesterday.
He sought medical attention at the Accident and Emergency Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on October 1 and was admitted for treatment in a mosquito-free environment. His blood sample tested positive for the chikungunya virus upon laboratory testing. He is now in stable condition.
The patients three household contacts, including one who accompanied the patient to Jiangmen on September 25 and 26, are currently asymptomatic and under medical surveillance.
